Arlington ISD ratifies new CFO, approves Barnett assistant principal and moves to notify employee of proposed termination

The Arlington ISD Board of Trustees unanimously ratified Norberto Rivas as the district's chief financial officer and approved Angie Davis as assistant principal at Barnett Junior High during its Oct. 16 meeting.

Trustee Wilbanks moved to ratify Rivas' appointment; Trustee Richardson seconded and the motion carried 7-0. Superintendent Doctor Smith introduced Rivas as a certified public accountant with more than 15 years of financial-management experience in education. Rivas thanked the board: "I am both humbled and honored that you all have, entrusted me with this role," he said, and described visits to roughly 20 campuses since joining the district.

The board also ratified the administrative appointment at Barnett Junior High. Angie Davis addressed trustees and thanked mentors and colleagues, saying she is "truly honored" and looks forward to supporting students and staff in her new role.

On a separate personnel action, Board President Chapa moved to "accept the superintendent's recommendation and to propose termination and non renewal of Zundra Dilworth's term contract," language read into the record by the president during open session. The motion was seconded and carried unanimously. The board directed district counsel to prepare and deliver required notice and procedures for a hearing, as provided in the motion.

Trustees also authorized the district's general counsel to resolve a closed-session legal matter; that motion also passed unanimously.

All board actions on appointments, the proposed termination and the legal authorization were recorded as unanimous votes in open session. The board announced it would recess briefly after the meeting to take photographs with honorees and then continue scheduled business.
