At its November meeting the Berkeley County Board of Zoning Appeals approved its Oct. 21 minutes and granted variances for two separate homeowner requests.
A motion by Mister Shire, seconded by Mister Mills, approved the minutes for the board's Oct. 21 meeting by voice vote.
Jason Smith, who identified his address as 112 Karr Sprint Road, asked for a variance to allow a metal, open-frame accessory structure exceeding 65% of the mobile-home footprint to shelter a camper, a boat and equipment. Smith said the structure would have no electrical service. The board confirmed he would retain three existing accessory structures and that the new structure would remain on the 112 Clark property. After no objections from staff, Miss Burbage moved to approve the variance and the board voted in favor.
Dina Lopez, 104 Glendale Court, Somerville, sought variances tied to a rear and front setback to add an extra room on a trapezoid-shaped lot in a cul-de-sac. Her brother, Juan Rodriguez, provided construction details and sketches. Staff clarified Lopez has 11 feet to the front property line and 14 feet on one side; she needs relief for the front and rear setbacks. Miss Burbage moved that the board grant the variance; the motion was seconded and the board voted 'aye.'
Each homeowner was sworn in prior to speaking as part of the board's public-comment procedures. Staff indicated no additional departmental comments for either case on the record.
Minutes and the two variances were recorded as approved; the board moved on to rule housekeeping and other agenda items.
