Belknap County nursing home reports occupancy gains and approves higher private-pay rate for new admits

Belknap County’s nursing-home administrator gave a quarterly briefing on operations, staffing and recent projects and the commissioners approved a private-pay rate increase for new admissions.
Director Shelley Richardson reported occupancy between 62% and 64% (58 residents) for the period Aug. 1–Oct. 31, noted staffing fills and recent hires in housekeeping and nursing, and listed completed facility improvements (mini-splits in the laundry) and forthcoming upgrades (additional cameras; cable upgrade to high definition). Richardson said the facility handled a regional incident request for temporary beds after another facility lost heat and that the nursing home remains 5‑star in overall quality with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Richardson also reported a small number of compliance events (an internal HIPAA oversharing incident that resulted in staff education) and that the facility has been purchasing test kits directly due to changing supply conditions.
Commissioners voted to raise the private-pay rate for new admissions to $400 per week, effective Jan. 1; the motion carried unanimously on the record. Richardson and county staff said existing residents would be handled under existing arrangements and the new rate would apply to newly admitted private-pay residents.
The nursing-home update concluded with commissioners asking staff to return with any projected revenue effects from the rate change in the next financial update.
