Maintenance update: district closes many work orders, replaces terracotta sewer at Pinewood and advances LED lighting assessment

During the Building & Grounds committee meeting Nov. 10, maintenance staff provided a broad operational update covering work-order throughput, sewer repairs, chiller pump rebuilds and lighting assessments.
Staff said 374 work orders were in the report with most closed and 14 remaining open. At Pinewood the crew replaced collapsed terracotta sewer pipe (described as 74 years old) and tied in to the street-level main while adding a north-side cleanout. "We ended up being about 10 foot there at the street level," maintenance staff said, noting the work brought the system up to modern materials.
Maintenance also reported two chiller pumps at DeRidder High were rebuilt, with redundancy allowing one to remain in service during work, and that a lighting specialist had completed a review of multiple schools to evaluate LED conversions where grant funding might be available. Staff said they had completed LED conversions where utilities provided funding but noted resources are limited.
The committee introduced Tim Cooley as a facilities liaison who has improved on-site coordination with vendors and reduced complaints, with members praising the change.
What’s next: Maintenance staff will continue punch-list, sewer and chiller work and pursue grant opportunities for additional LED conversions; they also recommended keeping legacy terracotta replacement on watch lists for other older campuses.
