Bastrop ISD board unanimously approves 2025–26 improvement plans; several routine items passed

The Bastrop Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2025–26 district and campus improvement plans at its regular meeting, advancing performance objectives the district says are designed to raise academic growth and close achievement gaps.
The board also approved the consent agenda, accepted the School Library Advisory Council(SLAC) recommended procurement list, and adopted a resolution nominating David Redd and Justin Besner to appear on the Bastrop Central Appraisal District ballot for terms running January 2026 through December 2029. All motions were moved, seconded, and recorded as carried unanimously.
Kendra Monk, the district director of leadership development and school improvement, presented the improvement plans and performance objectives. Monk said the district is targeting specific accountability measures: academic growth from 61 to 74, closing gaps (domain 3) from 73 to 80, and an overall strategic aim to raise the districtaccountability rating from a C to a B.
"These performance objectives are strategic mini-goals aligned to student achievement," Monk said during the presentation. She described monitoring responsibilities tied to directors overseeing assessment, CCMR (college, career and military readiness), special programs, digital learning and attendance.
Board members moved and seconded the motion to approve the plans and then voted by raised hands; the chair directed the record to show the motion carried unanimously. The meeting record does not list individual vote counts or board member names for each vote.
Chris Laresier, director of digital learning and library services, presented the SLAC process and the list of recommended library materials that had been posted publicly for 30 days. After board review, a motion to approve the procurement list passed unanimously.
On the appraisal district appointment cycle, the board president explained that Bastrop is one of the taxing units that must submit nominations to the chief appraiser by mid-October for the appraisal districtballot. The board moved to nominate incumbents David Redd and Justin Besner; the motion carried by unanimous voice/hand vote.
The board also approved the consent agenda without items pulled for separate discussion. The consent agenda motion was moved and seconded and the chair instructed the clerk to reflect that the motion carried unanimously.
What happens next: the appraisal district will prepare the official ballot prior to October 30; the improvement plans will be implemented and monitored by district staff and campus leaders, per Monkpresentation. No amendments to the improvement plan motion were offered at the meeting.
