The Appoquinimink School District Board of Education voted Nov. 18 to approve revised Policy 3108, which updates the district's holiday leave and absence language and clarifies who accrues paid leave and when medical documentation is required.
Dr. Small presented the second reading of the policy and explained key changes: the policy now aligns accrual definitions with negotiated agreements and state and federal law, increases the number of sick days that may be used as personal days from three to five, and raises the threshold for required medical documentation from three to four consecutive days. The revision also adds an explicit cross‑reference to paid family medical leave in the governance section and clarifies vacation vs annual leave language.
Board member Dr. Graham moved to approve the revision and Mr. Abrams seconded. After a brief clarification question from board members about where district holiday crosswalks are defined, the board approved the policy on a voice vote. Dr. Small said the calendar committee, collective bargaining agreements or custodial contract could be used as cross‑reference sources for district holiday listings.
The policy will be implemented per the revised language as presented.
