Blue Ridge USD recognizes students, teacher, coach and volunteers

The Blue Ridge Unified School District recognized several students and staff at its regular board meeting.

Superintendent Jonathan Roloff and school leaders presented Abby Livingston, a fourth grader nominated for marked improvement in behavior and self-control. Dan Robinson and Abby’s teacher, Mrs. Reynolds, said Abby ‘‘has made a complete turnaround’’ and now ‘‘takes responsibility for any of her behaviors.’’

Junior high student Zoe Koleil and high school senior Camila Gutierrez were also named students of the month. Board members and teachers praised Camila’s academic improvement and leadership; a teacher said she ‘‘consistently demonstrates accountability, asks thoughtful questions, [and] sets ambitious goals.’’ The record shows Camila plans to attend a program in Washington, D.C., referred to in the meeting as "Seagull." The board presentation described Camila as active in athletics and school programs.

Coach Clough introduced Noelle Harris as the athlete of the month, noting she is a three-sport athlete and ‘‘extraordinary in everything that she does.’’ Dr. Johnson and colleagues honored David Butterfield as teacher of the month for extra tutoring and after-school support, noting his work with struggling students and credit for preparing eighth-graders for high-school algebra and geometry.

The board also recognized Jared from support services for field and grounds work and presented Stephanie Jewell as volunteer of the month for frequent classroom and bulletin-board work; the record notes she will be approved as a substitute teacher.

The recognitions closed with board praise for staff and volunteers and photo opportunities.
