Board approves three budget amendments, including $65,000 STEM lab grant

Board members approved three budget amendments for fund 141 at the Oct. 16 meeting to recognize new revenues and grant awards that arrived after the original budget was adopted.
Ellen Smith summarized the amendments: number 19 adds a public school safety/security grant that staff applied for; number 20 continues the district's Innovative School Model (ISM) CTE grant in its fourth year; number 21 recognizes a Public Education Foundation award of $65,000 to support STEM laboratories in district schools. "Budget amendment number 21 ... they awarded us $65,000 for that project," Smith said.
A motion to approve the amendments passed by roll call, 7 yes and 0 no. Board members noted appreciation for staff grant-writing efforts that brought the funds into the district after the budget was passed.
The amendments add the awarded dollars to the general purpose school fund; staff will incorporate the grants into accounting and project implementation processes.
