Bradley County board approves consent agenda and 2027–28 academic calendar

The Bradley County Board of Education approved its consent agenda and adopted the 2027–28 academic calendar at its Oct. 16 regular meeting.
Dana Yost, chair of the calendar committee, told the board the committee developed two options and that classroom teachers voted on a preferred calendar. "The state does provide us with 3 abbreviated days, and we do try to place those abbreviated days in various ways so that we are not interrupting instructions," Yost said, explaining that the district typically schedules staff development the day before an abbreviated day so teachers can distribute report cards and close out the semester.
Board members voted 7–0 on the calendar and on the consent agenda. A board member drew attention to safety-related purchases included in the consent packet, noting staff and administrators have been proactive in pursuing grant funding for those items.
The calendar approval follows routine committee and staff review; the district will publish the adopted calendar and notify families through its usual channels. The meeting adjourned after several community announcements and confirmation of the board's next regular meeting on Nov. 11 at 5 p.m.
