The Town of Newburgh stormwater board approved Nov. 24 a property-owner request to replace a retaining wall and to install associated drainage pipes at 116 Adams Street.
Town engineer Drew Fleming said the owner proposed replacing an older stone wall with a treated-wood wall no greater than 30 inches high, set roughly 5 feet from the street edge based on a recent survey. Fleming said a surveyor verified property lines and that the neighboring property owner to the south agreed to the wall placement. "The elevation and back filler will be a river run rock and filter fabric and a small pipe that would be run to ensure there's adequate drainage behind the wall," Fleming said. Staff discussed using a perforated (corrugated) pipe within the river-run gravel to provide drainage.
On motion, the board approved installation of the drainage pipes associated with the retaining-wall replacement; the motion passed by voice vote. The board did not record a conditioned approval or additional permit requirements at the meeting. Fleming noted that the existing grade would remain and that the proposal included maintaining drainage behind the wall.
