Amanda Deaton, the county roads presenter, said roads were selected using a "worst-first" ranking and noted the list of streets was included in the meeting packet. "We have a total of 181 roads that were selected for a total of 60.6 miles," Deaton said.
Deaton told council members the intention is to advertise packages late this year or early next year and that contractor schedules mean construction would likely begin mid next year; standard resurfacing contracts for the county run about 15 months. Members discussed bidding strategy and whether to split the work into smaller packages so more local contractors could compete, and asked whether timeline or completion speed could be weighted in procurement evaluations.
Council members said faster timetables and smaller batches could increase contractor participation and shorten the public wait for repairs; staff said they would discuss packaging options with consultants as they prepare bid documents.
The motion to approve the package carried on a voice vote. The county will return with procurement documents and advertise according to the schedule discussed by staff.
