At the Nov. 18 meeting the Metuchen Board of Education moved and approved a series of routine agenda items and received an update on labor negotiations.
Minutes and roll-call votes The president moved to approve the Oct. 28 special business and board-meeting minutes. Roll call produced seven 'yes' votes and one abstention: Mister Lifton recorded an abstention; the motion carried.
Personnel, finance, policy and curriculum bundles In Mr. Suss's absence the board moved and approved personnel items A1— by roll call (members present voted in favor). The board likewise approved finance items B1—, policy items C1—, and curriculum items D1—; each motion passed by roll call with affirmative votes from members present.
Negotiations update Mister Lifton, chair of the negotiating committee, reported that the district had its first negotiating session with the teachers' bargaining unit the evening before. He reminded the public that bargaining-unit contracts expire July 1 and described the initial meeting as congenial and collaborative, saying the committee expects to work toward a fair agreement.
Public comment and procedure The board opened the public-comment portion of the meeting but no members of the public spoke. Board business ended with announcements and a reminder that the next meeting is Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. before the meeting adjourned.
