Superintendent Hiltz provided an update on expansion and facilities planning, saying District 49 is moving forward on relocating Falcon Elementary to the Bennett Ranch campus and building an addition that will include office space and repurposed interiors to serve preschool and other programs.
Hiltz said the district is using developer-dedicated capital funds (fee-in-lieu of land or land dedication) to leverage additional fiscal benefits and that staff are coordinating with operational departments (transportation, nutrition services) to plan routing and drop-off logistics. He described a cost-saving proposal to convert existing middle-school–sized locker rooms into licensed preschool spaces (removing lockers and benches, reflooring, modifying HVAC and sound control) rather than building new interior space.
Hiltz also noted ongoing conversations about an external partner that may build student-serving spaces on district property and cautioned that certain details remain confidential until appropriate executive-session review and public presentation. He said the district is mindful of nearby Colorado Department of Transportation and Falcon Highway expansions that will reduce existing parking/easements and informed the board this timing made the relocation an appropriate proactive step.
Hiltz said some construction (facilities cold-storage structure) is expected to begin soon with availability targeted in late summer/early fall next year; staff will return with bid and contract updates as projects advance.
