District 49 presents updated charter school annual performance reviews; several charters show gains

Brittany Brennan, coordinator of charter school relations, presented District 49’s generation-2 Annual Performance Review (APR) template and summarized results for the district’s charter schools. The APR organizes reviews into academic, finance and operations categories and weights indicator and element scores to determine overall standing (good standing, improvement, or does not meet).
Banning Lewis Prep, GOAL and other charters were reported in good standing for consecutive years. Grand Peak Academy posted a notable increase of 10.4 SPF points year-over-year; Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy recorded an increase of 13.9 SPF points. Pikes Peak School of Expeditionary Learning and Rocky Mountain Classical Academy also received positive reviews and were described as collaborative with strong compliance rates.
Brittany Brennan reminded the board that APRs are required by Colorado law and that the district’s authorizing role focuses on outcomes rather than day-to-day operations. She said Mountain View Academy’s OPS6 compliance issue triggered a notice of concern, which automatically affects that tab’s rating; staff described that the charter has since improved responsiveness and submissions.
Board members praised high-performing charters and noted increased parent satisfaction reported during outreach and door-knocking, while staff encouraged trustees to review detailed APR charts in the board packet for school-specific data.
