Board members confirmed that Kelly Books resigned after accepting a job in Kearney, Nebraska and that the board promptly posted an application and timeline to fill the vacancy.
Dr. Schultz said the application was posted immediately after the special meeting to accept the resignation and that interviews by the full board are scheduled for Nov. 17 in executive session. "All of the interviews will be an executive session. The board will come out of executive session to name the replacement," Dr. Schultz said.
Board members and the superintendent clarified the length of the appointment: the appointee will serve only until the elected candidate assumes office (for a June election, typically at the July meeting), and the remaining portion of the three-year term will then be on the ballot for the appropriate term. Stacy and trustees noted applicants must file promptly if they want to run for the remaining short term or the full three-year term once filing timelines are set.
Why it matters: the appointment process determines who represents district patrons in the near term and affects ballot structure and candidate strategy for the next election. The board emphasized the timeline will be posted on the district website and applicants have through the Thursday deadline referenced in the superintendent’s report.
Next steps: Applications remain open through the posted deadline; interviews will be held Nov. 17 in executive session and the board will name a temporary replacement afterward.
