Bentonville School Board approves fiscal year updates, policy changes and personnel packet

The Bentonville School District board on Nov. 18 unanimously approved the district budget, a package of policy updates (including three new artificial-intelligence policies) and a personnel packet following executive session.

Board President Faddis called for and the board approved the budget after a presentation from Dr. Schwannhauser, who said the district’s period-4 all-funds balance was $80,300,000 and that the operating fund balance stood at about $41,000,000 (15.5 percent of expenditures). "Year to date, our expenditures exceed our revenues by 1,200,000," Schwannhauser told the board, adding that property-tax receipts expected this month would reverse that trend.

Why it matters: the vote preserves the district’s spending plan and keeps construction transfers and planned salary increases funded. The policy package — which included personnel-evaluation updates and three new AI-use policies written using ASBA model language and committee input — was presented by Ms. Sharp and approved by the board. Details and context: Schwannhauser said operating expenditures were up year over year by roughly $5.5 million, driven by salary increases and student growth, while revenues were also up by about $6.6 million because of property-value increases and enrollment growth.
