METUCHEN, N.J. — At its Oct. 14 meeting the Metuchen Board of Education’s construction committee reported progress on the high‑school addition and raised concerns about remaining contingency funds.
Mister Glassberg, speaking during the committee report, said most interior HVAC work at the high school is installed, the cafeteria addition is complete though not yet in use because of final configuration, and framing and rough electrical work for a new gym addition are in place. He told the board that translucent glass installation is scheduled around October and that the addition is "expected to be complete around the December," with system commissioning and further finishing work to follow.
Glassberg also said new electrical service for the high school is expected to be installed around election week, weather permitting, which he said will allow the air‑conditioning systems to operate soon afterward. He noted that additional soils that should have been removed were still outstanding but expected to be addressed.
On budget, Glassberg said contingency budgets for the construction plan "are essentially used up at this point," signaling reduced flexibility for unforeseen costs as the project moves toward completion. He also reported that the committee discussed site security around construction areas and plans for public events at each school to showcase completed spaces.
Other updates included work at Moss on an interior courtyard playground and plans to level the back field at Campbell — an item Glassberg said was not part of the referendum but was agreed to afterward based on public feedback. The committee listed next meeting dates as Nov. 17 and the next public meeting as Dec. 15.
The committee's reporting was informational; no substantive board action on construction budgets or contracts was recorded during the meeting.
