The Lewiston City Council voted unanimously to transfer $949,000 from a combination of prior bond issues and an available 2023 fund balance to the Lewiston‑Auburn 911 communications center.
Director Roy told the council the regional 9‑1‑1 committee found project costs would exceed initial expectations and that Auburn had already funded its share; to avoid delaying the project the city identified $949,000 from earlier bond years and an unneeded fund balance to cover Lewiston’s portion. Director Hall said initial project estimates were roughly $2.7 million and staff are negotiating with the vendor, Allied Cook, to reduce the total cost.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about the facility location (Auburn Hall), the timeline and language in the order; several members thanked staff for finding available funds. Councillor Shutum noted the urgency: the current Auburn Central Station site will no longer be available after June 2026. The clerk called the vote and the motion passed 7–0.
Next steps: staff will continue pricing negotiations with Allied Cook and report back to council on final contract costs and any required additional appropriations.
