A district court in Bexar County accepted a no-contest plea from Jonathan Godina to the lesser-included offense of indecent assault and sentenced him to 365 days in the Bexar County Jail, a $1,500 fine and a no-contact order with the complainant.
The court called case 2025CR008298 and confirmed that defense attorney David A. Garcia had reviewed discovery with his client. The State announced it would proceed on the lesser-included misdemeanor charge of indecent assault. The judge read the range of punishment — up to one year in the county jail and a fine up to $4,000 — and explained that if the court declined to follow the plea, the defendant could withdraw it. The defendant waived a jury and, after the court accepted stipulated exhibits in lieu of live testimony, the judge found that there was sufficient evidence to find the defendant guilty.
"The court will sentence you to 365 days in the Bexar County Jail, give you credit for any time served. There's a $1,500 fine, and there should be no contact with the complainant," the judge stated. Jonathan Godina responded, "Yes, your honor," when asked whether he understood and agreed to the plea and sentencing consequences. The court also confirmed that the defendant had signed a waiver of appeal consistent with the plea bargain.
The judge told counsel that because the agreement included stipulated testimony and admissions, the court considered the written stipulations when determining the outcome and sentence. Defense counsel agreed on the record that discovery had been reviewed with the defendant.
The case concluded with the court imposing the sentence described above and noting the procedural consequences of the plea agreement.
