Avery County recognizes state-champion golf and national turfgrass teams

At its Dec. 1 meeting the Avery County Board of Commissioners adopted resolutions recognizing two Avery County High School student teams for recent competitive achievements.
The board formally congratulated the Avery County High School women's golf team for winning the 2025–26 NCHSAA 1A/2A state team championship. Commissioners noted that the title marks a first state championship in the program's history and asked team members to come forward for recognition.
The commission also recognized the Avery County High School Turfgrass Science team for winning the national GCSAA Turfgrass Science invitational, a multi-state competition. The resolution cites the students — Aaron King, Eli Church, Finley Trivet and Preston Burnup — for bringing nationwide recognition to Avery County.
Both resolutions were presented by S6 and adopted after motions and unanimous 'aye' votes. County leaders invited team members forward and offered public congratulations.
The resolutions will be entered into the county record and certificates presented to the students and coaches.
