Tommy Onesto honored as Great Prairie AEA Regional Teacher of the Year

Onesto described the nomination and interview process as intensive and said he was surprised to be selected. He credited administrators, collaborating teachers and students for shaping his practice: "My greatest strength was always bringing up the other teachers who built me," he said. He recalled early work teaching at the San Diego Zoo and a 30-year career filled with connections to students and colleagues.
Principal remarks highlighted Onesto's commitment to student relationships and the breadth of the high school's arts programming. Board members and administrators praised Onesto's classroom environment and encouraged the community to attend the student art show in May.
Next steps: the board took photos and presented recognition; Onesto is scheduled to present to new teachers in January as part of professional-development programming.
