The Burlington Community School District board voted Nov. 10 to approve a contract with Vector Solutions to provide an online training platform for staff and students that district leaders said will centralize mandatory trainings, tracking and reporting.
Lacey Johnson told the board the platform offers a course library covering safety and student well-being topics such as bullying and suicide prevention and will simplify assigning and reporting mandatory trainings for staff. Johnson said the district is part of a consortium that provided a price break under the proposed contract; she noted the contract has an automatic two-year renewal clause and annual increases capped in the agreement.
A board member asked whether the platform's trainings would satisfy state licensing requirements for teacher renewals; Johnson and administration confirmed that the trainings would meet those needs and that some courses are already free to staff through the district.
During the same meeting the board approved a first reading of Policy 104 (anti-bullying and harassment), revised to reflect changes under House File 865. Johnson said the policy committee reviewed the draft and the board moved to approve the first reading.
Voting: the Vector Solutions contract passed with one abstention; the first reading of Policy 104 was approved by voice vote.
Next steps: district staff will begin implementation with principals to determine student-facing content while HR and administration will manage staff tracking and reporting.
