Brunswick County accepted a $6,751,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to construct a 1,000,000‑gallon elevated water storage tank at the Mid Atlantic Industrial Rail Park, county utilities staff reported.
Brent (utilities staff) told the Board that the project has been in development for years, was designed and permitted after a 2023 Golden Leaf grant supported initial work, and is now ready pending additional funding. "We request the board of commissioners accept a grant notice of award from the U.S. Economic Development Administration in the amount of $6,751,000 for the Mid Atlantic Industrial Rail Park water tank project and authorize the county manager to sign and submit all required grant documents," the utilities presenter said.
Commissioners praised the award and approved the acceptance and authorization by voice vote. One commissioner noted that the county still will have associated costs to pay and that grant funding reduces but does not eliminate the county’s obligations.
What’s next: Staff will execute the grant documents, proceed with procurement and project implementation steps, and return with details as project milestones are reached.
