VFW, American Legion present funds after Boyle County Veterans memorial overhaul

Jack Hendricks, representing American Legion Post 46 and VFW Post 36/34, told the Boyle County Fiscal Court on Oct. 28 that veterans’ groups helped lead a refurbishment of the Field In Action memorial at the county veterans site, which lists 77 names of local service members. Tony Cromwell, commander of American Legion Post 46, and Donnie Knaiser of the VFW described volunteer work and charitable support that funded the project. The VFW presented a $3,750 check toward the restoration work, which court members accepted during the meeting.
Judge Trillie L. Bottom told attendees the court had planned a modest upgrade but the effort “blossomed” after local veterans and public‑works staff became involved. County public‑works crews and volunteers repaired concrete and landscaping at the site, and the court said a Hall of Fame monument will be installed and dedicated after the fiscal‑court meeting on Nov. 10, when a formal presentation will follow the regular business.
Court members thanked the posts, named volunteers and the road department for their assistance and encouraged veterans and the public to attend upcoming recognition events. No formal county appropriation for the site repair beyond acceptance of the donation was made during the Oct. 28 meeting; court staff said they will finalize event logistics and certificates for participating veterans’ organizations.
