Miss Jill Thompson returned to the council to request a modification to an earlier motion that approved up to $40,000 in city support for the Washington County Historical Society to explore reuse of the former Discovery Station on West Washington Street. Thompson said staff and the historical society now estimate predevelopment and feasibility work at $100,000 (feasibility study, appraisal, inspection, legal work, and option-to-purchase tasks) and asked that any Washington County contribution be counted in addition to the city's approved amount rather than reducing the city share.
She described a funding breakdown included in the memo (historical society $30,000; city $35–40,000; Washington County requested $35,000) and said the historical society has submitted a request to the county. Thompson said the society's board and project lead (Andy Stout) had advanced the concept and that if the county provides funds, staff should treat county contributions as additional project resources. Staff noted a formal motion will be made at the regular council session this month to record the change.
No formal council vote occurred during the work session.
