Board holds first reading of new "moral instruction" policy, cites KRS 158.200

"It can't be core instruction," a board member said while asking for assurances that the hour would be instructional and meaningful for students.

Administration responded that principals are being consulted and that accompanying procedures will be provided at the second reading. Legal counsel summarized the item as a compliance measure: "It's sufficient that it's regarding moral instruction, and it just ensures compliance with KRS 158.200," the counsel said during the meeting.

The board asked that the next packet include the district—s procedures and building-specific plans so members can review how the policy would operate in practice and avoid creating unnecessary planning burdens for schools that will not be affected this year.
