Beloit board names Wayne R. Anderson interim superintendent, seeks stability and targeted referendum planning

The Beloit School District Board formally welcomed Dr. Wayne R. Anderson as interim superintendent on Nov. 18, following the board's appointment earlier that week.

Board President Johnson said the board appointed Anderson on Nov. 14 and thanked district administrators and interview committee members who participated in the process. "On behalf of the Board of Education, it is my honor to introduce and welcome Doctor Wayne R Anderson," she said.

Anderson, who has more than 40 years in public education and prior interim superintendent experience in several Wisconsin districts, told the board he was "thrilled to be back." He described an early focus on visibility and relationship-building: "My goal is... to be in every building, at least 2 or 3 times per week," he said. He added he would meet with building principals and staff to identify priorities.

On long-term district planning, Anderson said any referendum the board considers should be narrowly targeted so voters can see exactly "what our money is being spent for." He outlined an early plan to dissect the district budget with leadership to identify needs and costs and to prepare choices the community would understand.

Board members framed the appointment as a step toward stability. President Johnson noted Anderson's previous interim service in Beloit during 2022, and members cited his experience with financial restructuring, staffing challenges and academic improvements.

There was no formal vote recorded during the introductory remarks; the board previously announced the Nov. 14 appointment during the meeting packet and the item was presented for the public as part of the scheduled agenda.

Next steps: Anderson said he will continue meeting with principals and staff, pursue a district budget review, and work with the board on whether to pursue a referendum and, if so, how to structure it.
