Superintendent says district "data is flat" as report card shows pockets of strength

Superintendent Riley briefed the committee on the state accountability report card, describing district-level performance as largely unchanged year over year: "Our data is flat,'" Riley said. The presentation broke down achievement, growth and student-success factors and highlighted areas of strength and concern.
Riley pointed to Rockwell as a high-performing example (Rockwell maintained a five-star rating, one of only 17 schools statewide) and described strong graduation and science-proficiency results at the high school. Areas identified for focused work included growth measures in some schools, English-language-learner proficiency and teacher chronic absenteeism; she noted these measures form the basis for school-improvement plans to be drafted this year and submitted to RIDE.
Committee members asked technical questions about how star ratings are derived and how multi-year data affects star placement; Riley and staff clarified that the system aggregates multiple measures, and that some schools remain close to a one-star improvement threshold. Staff also committed to publishing live links to the report-card pages and to follow up to fix an access link that several members said returned a 2023–24 result instead of 2024–25 data.
Riley closed by reminding the committee that the next step is for principals to use this report together with midyear data in December to formulate school-improvement plans and budgetary adjustments.
