Bonner County approves Road & Bridge purchases and a grader replacement bid advertisement

Bonner County commissioners voted Nov. 4 to approve three items from the Road & Bridge Department: purchase of plow and grader carbide bits from EB Equipment Blades for $45,432, authorization to contract Steve Peck Fabrication LLC to build two custom sanders for $22,350 apiece (total $44,700), and approval to advertise to replace one motor grader that reaches lease payoff in January with use of the buyback option.
Road & Bridge Director Jason Taub said the department typically buys specialized grader/plow bits from a small set of vendors. He told the board two bidders provided like-for-like quotes for the carbide bits and recommended EB Equipment Blades based on price. On the sanders, Taub described heavier construction (3/16 mild steel) and an expected 20-year service life, saying it represented a better return on investment versus thin-steel commercial units.
For the grader replacement, staff reported a payoff figure of $120,000 and a buyback option of $190,000; commissioners approved advertising the replacement and recommended using the buyback option so the county can capture resale value. All motions passed on roll-call votes.
