The New Canaan Board of Selectmen on Dec. 2 approved personnel moves and a slate of board appointments.
Town Clerk (Speaker 11) presented two hires: Carol Rendy, recommended from a pool of applicants with prior town-clerk office experience in Stamford, for a full‑time administrative assistant position effective Dec. 8, 2025; and John Amorillos for a temporary, 30‑hour/week position for three months starting Dec. 2, 2025 to assist onboarding. The clerk explained the short-term hire avoids staffing gaps during Carol’s onboarding and noted there were no anticipated union or benefits issues for the temporary arrangement. The board approved both hires unanimously.
Separately, selectmen appointed Arvin Bajaj to a three‑year term on the Police Commission ending Dec. 1, 2028 to replace Paul Foley, whom the chair thanked for years of service. The board also approved reappointments for several Planning & Zoning members (regular and alternate) and reappointed Robin Friar, Janet Lanaway and Tony CC to the Audit Committee for three‑year terms ending Dec. 1, 2028. Members praised volunteers’ contributions and noted the added workload for planning and zoning connected to recent state legislation referenced as "8002." All appointments and reappointments passed unanimously.
The board framed these votes as routine personnel and governance matters but highlighted the heavy time commitment required of many volunteers on Planning & Zoning.
