District previews annual data report, highlights NJROTC and student achievements

District staff previewed the Chambersburg Area School District’s Comprehensive Annual Data Report (CADR) and a three‑year academic dashboard tied to the board’s Schools of Distinction by 2030 blueprint. The district said it recently integrated final state data and will present the full CADR and executive summary at the Nov. 18 board meeting.
The public dashboard preview emphasized measured strengths in secondary education and science. Presenters said middle school and high‑school students outperformed the state average in Keystone exam proficiency in algebra, biology and literature. At the same time, the district said third‑grade reading proficiency lags behind the state and identified foundational elementary literacy as a top, immediate priority. Plans include expanding early‑grade interventions, leveraging a “walk to read” initiative, strengthening pre‑K preventive plans, family involvement and intensive professional development on the science of reading for primary teachers.
Administrators also outlined secondary concerns, noting that while proficiency is above the state average in some subjects, growth indicators have declined at the secondary level and will prompt audits of curriculum scope, sequence and resources as well as school‑level ATSI plans.
The board and community were also briefed on student achievements: Chambersburg Area Senior High School’s NJROTC program was recognized as a Distinguished Unit with academic honors and identified as the No. 1 NJROTC unit in the Mid‑Atlantic Region. Cadets summarized leadership camps, competitions and community events and shared fundraising and competition results.
Student government representatives from Chambersburg Area Senior High and Chambersburg Middle School provided updates on homecoming, college‑week instant admissions, CareerTech achievements (SkillsUSA podium finishes) and club projects including a hydroponic system to grow food for the community.
Administration confirmed the CADR will contain building‑level breakdowns, discipline, athletics and attendance data and will be posted online ahead of the November full presentation.
