Board approves policy wording change to allow schedule study, new events manager stipend and routine contracts

At its meeting Monday, the Burlington Community School District Board approved several policy, personnel and contract items, including a policy language change allowing administrators to evaluate alternate high‑school schedules, creation of an events manager role as a temporary stipend, and approval of a prom contract paid from student funds.

Mister Scott explained the policy change to 505.05 is limited to wording that would permit the administrative team to consider moving from the current trimester schedule to a semester/period or A‑B block schedule. "By us approving the wording change tonight allows administration at the high school... to come up with the best plan for our students' education," Scott said, and he emphasized the board would not itself be approving a specific schedule at this meeting.

The board also approved adding an events manager/activities job description to the handbook. The posted stipend is specified as 10% of base salary and the role was described as a non‑teaching, seasonal position intended to cover event management duties while the activity director also serves as the head wrestling coach.

Other approvals included a Barn on the Ridge contract for the prom (to be paid from student funds) and a board vote on the Great Prairie Area Education Agency election ballot. The AEA ballot passed with an abstention recorded. Board members asked that staff invite the AEA candidate to a future meeting to build a working relationship.

The board completed the business items and recessed briefly before a scheduled staff work session on early-childhood insurance.
