Cass County to pursue $200,000 court facility grant; staff cite $100,000 already used for courtroom tech

Mister Wilson told the committee that the 2025 legislative actions included $100,000 for the state's share of courtroom technology expenses and that money has already been implemented and used as part of the County’s courtroom improvements. On the additional $200,000 line, Wilson said he had reviewed legislative testimony and minutes and believed the allocation was directed toward districts with facility needs after adding judges; he said Cass County meets that description after adding two judges in 2023 and recommended applying for the funds.
Commissioners asked staff to seek a legislative council memorandum clarifying intent and permissible uses; Taylor suggested reaching out to Senator Sorvaugh and other legislators to support the application. Staff said they will follow up with judges Webb and McCullough and the state court administrator as they assemble the 2026 application.
Next steps: staff will prepare the application for the $200,000 allocation, pursue clarifying documentation from legislative staff and contact legislative representatives to explain Cass County’s facility needs.
