East Chicago board hears tentative teachers’ contract: 3% raise, $1,100 stipend presented

Trustees confirmed the board will not vote immediately and that signatures can be collected later to satisfy the 72‑hour posting and ratification requirement identified by counsel. Attorney Gallagher told trustees the board "can approve, and ratify this agreement 72 hours after this meeting" if there is no public comment.
No formal ratification vote was taken at the work session; administration and counsel said the tentative agreement will be posted as required and will appear on the regular meeting agenda for a vote. The board discussed logistics for collecting signatures from members not present that evening so the district can meet the 72‑hour timing requirement.
Next steps: the agreement will be posted and publicly noticed; the district intends to seek board signatures and ratify the agreement after the statutory posting period if no public comment prevents ratification.
