Board hears Phase 2 strategic plan update; consultant to return with final plan for Jan. 14 vote

Ruth Stone, presenting remotely, updated the Richmond Community Schools Board of Trustees on Phase 2 of a district strategic plan at the Nov. 24 meeting, outlining outreach conducted since June and next steps toward adoption.

Stone described a three‑phase planning process (discovery, planning, implementation), said more than 100 engagements informed the draft and noted a well‑attended retreat with board members, central office staff and principals. She listed the plan’s strategic pillars as student achievement, financial longevity, building for the future, leadership and governance, and community engagement, and described work on a 10‑year master facility plan to make responsible use of district space.

Stone emphasized aligning goals with available resources and wrote multiple draft versions for review with staff and stakeholders. She told the board the completed plan would return for a work session and vote on Jan. 14, 2026. Board members praised the collaborative process and said they welcomed follow‑up check‑ins to keep implementation on track.

During open forum a board member reported a visit to Crestdale — praising the new administrator’s work but reporting that the building appears "bursting at the seams" and may face capacity issues. The board also set the next regular meeting for Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m. and a special policy meeting for Dec. 16 at 10 a.m., with policy meetings alternating between morning and evening to increase participation.
