Committee authorizes NYSDOT engineering agreement for County Bridge 920; project largely federally funded

The Chautauqua County Public Facilities Committee voted Nov. 10 to authorize an agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation that advances the engineering phase for replacement of the superstructure on County Bridge 920, which spans the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad on Baker Street Extension near Cummins.
Drew Rogers, deputy director of public facilities engineering, told the committee the project is funded through the Bridge NY program with approximately 95% federal participation and 5% local match. He said the resolution specifically authorizes the engineering phase at $350,000, with 95% expected as federal funding.
Rogers described the overall project as roughly a $2.5 million undertaking, with construction estimated at about $2.1 million. Committee members asked why the resolution arrived as a late item; Rogers said the delay was administrative. When asked what would happen if federal funds were withheld, he said the county would either identify alternate funding sources or hold the project, but stressed that “at some point, we gotta fix the bridge.”
The committee carried the resolution; staff will proceed with the engineering work under the NYSDOT agreement and return with updates if funding or schedule changes occur.
