Chautauqua County committee OKs small easement expansion for Niagara Mohawk near Fredonia transfer station

The Chautauqua County Public Facilities Committee voted Nov. 10 to authorize conveyance of an easement and right-of-way to Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation to accommodate changes to existing utility pole and pull configurations east of the North County Fredonia transfer station.

Aaron Gustafson, deputy director of Public Facilities and Environment, told the committee that Niagara Mohawk asked to “slightly expand the easement that’s already existing” to make room for changed pole/pull structures. He said the company is “changing the pulls and the structure of the pulls” and requested “a little more room for right of way and easement responsibilities.”

Gustafson flagged a county fence that currently sits inside the proposed area and said he is “working with law to respond that that structure be either maintained or moved and replaced if necessary.” Committee members reviewed a map in the contract materials and described the proposed addition as minimal. One member noted a related easement approved a few years earlier along roadside frontage for a separate Saint George’s facility project and sought confirmation that this is a different action; Gustafson said it is a separate, smaller expansion.

With no opposition raised on the record, the committee voted to carry the resolution authorizing the conveyance.

Next steps for the project will follow county procedure to complete conveyance documents and any required property adjustments identified during final survey and review.
