Board recognizes state‑champion tennis team, announces track lighting ribbon cutting and hears community fund and club proposals

The school board opened the meeting with a series of recognitions. Charlottesville High School’s boys tennis team was honored for winning a second consecutive state championship with a 20–2 season; coaches and named student athletes were acknowledged. Athletic staff and community partners thanked the board and donors for funding new field lighting at the Curtis Elder Track & Field Complex and announced a ribbon‑cutting scheduled for Oct. 21 at 6:15 p.m.
During public comment, two students proposed creating an entrepreneur club to provide peer support for small business ventures and said they plan weekly Wednesday meetings. A parent announced the launch of a Charlottesville Citywide PTO Fund hosted at the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation aimed at raising $100,000 in the first year to distribute resources more equitably across school PTOs; a fundraiser was scheduled for Oct. 23.
Board members and staff expressed appreciation for volunteers and donors and encouraged community attendance at upcoming events.
