Beloit board adopts 2025–26 district goals focused on achievement, attendance, behavior and staff retention

The School District of Beloit board voted unanimously Nov. 4 to accept proposed 2025–26 district goals that emphasize student achievement, attendance, behavior and staff retention.
President Tia Johnson presented goals recommended by the governance committee. Governance consultant Dr. Earhart said the four goals are student-achievement focused and that departments and school teams will develop SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) action plans aligned to each goal.
The four proposed goals cover: ELA and math achievement (with preACT/ACT measures for high school), improving student attendance with an emphasis on chronic absenteeism, strengthening student conduct/behavior and safety (building on ad hoc work on discipline), and advancing staff retention, compensation and well-being.
Carol Fox moved to accept the 2025–26 goals and Brian Nichols seconded. Board members asked for monitoring details and action-plan timelines; Dr. Earhart and administration pledged to return with implementation plans and monitoring systems that will report progress back to the board. The motion carried unanimously. Board members also discussed using the goals work to inform longer-range strategic planning and potential community engagement ahead of any future referendum planning.
The board directed administration to provide the SMART-format action plans and regular monitoring reports at future meetings.
