Staff climate survey: Beloit sees modest gains but technology support drops

An external consultant presented the School District of Beloit’s 2025 staff climate survey on Nov. 4, showing modest, district-wide improvements in several staff-experience measures but a notable decline on technology-support items.
Dr. Gottlieb of SchoolPerceptions said 301 staff members responded (a 41% response rate) and that most respondents were classroom teachers. He summarized index-level changes: academics rose 7.6% (from 2.91 to 3.13), student engagement rose 2.9%, staff experience nudged up, and the district’s support index fell about 4% overall — a drop Gottlieb said was driven primarily by technology items, notably the item “I have the technology I need to do my job well.”
Gottlieb described the survey methodology (a 1–5 Likert scale, no neutral midpoint) and noted areas of improvement tied to staff engagement and disciplinary practices. He recommended board and administration continue emphasis on communication, disciplinary consistency and supervisor support because those factors most strongly influence staff retention.
During Q&A, board members asked how Beloit compares with similar districts. Gottlieb said Beloit remains below comparison averages on many items but is trending upward year over year; he recommended focusing on staff retention drivers and addressing the technology shortfall identified in the survey. Board members asked administration to bring follow-up monitoring and action plans to translate the goals into SMART measures.
The presentation did not prompt an immediate board vote; members asked for implementation plans and monitoring reports to accompany any goal adoption or budget decisions.
