Ed Howard, an LSC member and parent from Onahan Elementary, told the Chicago Board of Education that his school’s outdoor athletic field project began roughly 10 years ago and reached 100% design and a written commitment from the CEO's office in 2022, but the project was not brought to the board or funded in the budget cycle as promised.
Howard said unsafe conditions on the current field have caused injuries and urged the board to follow up and complete the project, stressing the impact on the Onahan community, staff and about 650 students.
He offered to answer questions from board members and said he had a signed letter from the CEO's office to the 41st Ward alderman, Anthony Napolitano, citing the project commitment. The transcript records his request to the board but does not show a follow-up action during the meeting.
