After-school services to restart in Chester-Upland with soft opening Oct. 27, district says

Miss Hale outlined plans to relaunch districtwide after-school services, describing staffing, vendors and start dates.
"Our soft opening is October 27 where we'll be having staff come back for onboarding, training, making sure we have all curriculum in place, and students are due to be back for after school services beginning the first week in November," Miss Hale said.
She told the board that the district conducted an application process for vendors and reviewed budgets and proposals; several vendors with prior experience were selected to provide services. Miss Hale said about 240 Title I students who attend nonpublic or parochial schools will be followed by Title I funds and noted Drexel Newman Academy and Jackson Newman in that context. She also said the Boys & Girls Club is an off-site after-school provider and typically receives transportation for about 40–50 students.
Miss Hale described program elements including academic support, mentoring and activities; she noted a licensed barber provided services during last year’s program and will return, coordinated with the new CTE supervisor to create transition pathways from after-school into CTE programming.
Board members asked clarifying questions about vendor selection and program scope; staff said they will share additional program and phasing details with the board before full implementation.
