Planning Board tables AT&T monopine proposal at St. Mary’s Church pending DEC and EAC wetlands review

The Cheektowaga Planning Board on Monday voted to table AT&T’s application to build a disguised monopine tower at 940 Lawson, the St. Mary’s Church property, until the town receives additional wetlands delineation and state concurrence. Brenda Blaske Lewis, an acquisition consultant with Centerline Communications representing AT&T, told the board the company is preparing a wetland delineation and will seek concurrence from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and consult with the Army Corps of Engineers on wetland boundaries.
The board heard from Brenda Blaske Lewis remotely, who described the proposal and said Kossage Engineering has been working on the delineation. "We're going to go straight to the DEC New York State DEC regional office to get a concurrence on the actual location and the boundaries of the wetlands," she said. Members asked whether neighbors had contacted the office; staff said none had at this time. The planner explained that a balloon test would be scheduled 14 days before any public hearing.
Board members said the item had previously been tabled by the town’s Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC). A motion to table the project until the DEC and EAC provide further information was moved and carried by voice vote.
Next steps: the applicant will complete the wetland delineation and seek DEC concurrence; the board indicated it would revisit the application after EAC and DEC input and after a public hearing process, including the balloon test, if required.
