Commissioners raised budget concerns, noted the county’s pending compensation study and other fiscal pressures, and asked whether the county road department could perform the work in-house at a lower cost. Staff and the county’s road department representative said they would examine in-house cost options and provide a breakdown of preparatory work versus finish paving and return to the board with estimates. Commissioner motions to table were made and seconded, and the board voted to table the item to a future meeting pending road-department estimates and further numbers.
The board emphasized timing: the county still had time under its agreement with the Elks to complete paving before next winter, and staff indicated the project could be scheduled next paving season if the board approved later.
