Representatives for Jamestown Community College and the YMCA asked the county to request SUNY include construction of phase 1 in the 2026–27 capital request and to approve county design funding. Presenters described the overall project as approximately $45 million and said design work will cover the entire facility while permitting phased construction. Minutes show the county’s requested share of the JCC portion of design is $195,000; presenters said SUNY and YMCA have committed portions of design funding.
Members expressed support and some caution about fundraising and execution but agreed the phased approach preserves flexibility should later funding prove challenging. The committee approved both the request to include phase 1 in SUNY’s request and the capital appropriation for design.
Next steps: county staff and project partners will coordinate SUNY capital request materials and proceed with design procurement while monitoring fundraising and phasing decisions.
