Parents urge Auburn School Committee to move bus stop at blind curve on Tournament Drive

Two Auburn residents told the School Committee on Oct. 15 that a school bus stop at or near 15 Tournament Drive sits on a sharp, blind curve and endangers children who must cross the road.
"The cars drive really, really fast, and the school bus stop is right on the corner," resident Anna said, adding she and her husband have "seen multiple cars go off the road." Jamie Zhao said the corner is a blind downhill spot where the bus crossing is "directly in the blind side of cars coming over the top of the hill," and that repaving last year removed a natural speed bump and increased vehicle speeds. Zhao said the family had raised the issue through the district's procedure but "to no avail."
Chair Pam Albert asked the speakers to leave contact information for follow-up and the superintendent indicated staff would follow up with them.
Why it matters: the speakers described recurring vehicle accidents at the location and said a student must cross at the stop; board members did not take a motion during the meeting but the district will have an opportunity to investigate and potentially relocate the stop or pursue engineering remedies.
