The Goldsboro City Council adopted a Parks and Recreation Master Plan (consent agenda) and unanimously approved a resolution to rename the city-operated facility formerly associated with Edgewood to Peachtree Street Recreation Center.
City staff said the rename is required by the lease terms with the Wayne County Public School System and will simplify reservations, marketing and liability distinctions because Eastern Wayne’s Edgewood school continues to operate. Recreation staff presented the proposed name, noting the facility’s street address is 1601 Peachtree Street and that the new name aligns with location-based naming conventions used by parks and recreation staff. "We like the name Peachtree Street Recreation Center for some obvious reasons," the recreation director said.
Council adopted the master plan and the renaming resolution without debate; the renaming vote was unanimous.
What council said
Council members said the parks master plan had been reviewed previously, described the plan as a guide for department work plans and noted that staff will return with implementation steps as part of the upcoming CIP and budget process. The manager also noted plans to discuss the future of other recreation assets and to present a State of the City update in January or February.
Next steps
Staff will implement adopted elements of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and update relevant marketing, reservation systems and lease records to reflect the new facility name.
