Jesse Kaplan, a resident who thanked the council for an earlier ban on gas-powered equipment for city use, urged the council on Nov. 12 to consider expanding restrictions to personal and commercial use and to explore financial incentives to help residents and vendors transition to electric lawn equipment.
Kaplan said the noise and air pollution from gas-powered mowers affects quality of life and that the council should consider ways to make the transition easier for affected vendors, including helping with the upfront capital cost of electric equipment. "The noise pollution from these machines impact our quality of life and our environment," Kaplan said.
Council members acknowledged the environmental and noise concerns and asked staff to consider the suggestion as part of ongoing sustainability and procurement discussions.
