The City of Anderson council unanimously approved Ordinance 25-16 on second reading, revising the municipality’s business license class schedule to conform with a state mandate requiring uniform use of North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) categories and updated state data.
Mister McKeown told the council the state has required municipalities to adopt a consistent business license rate class schedule and update that schedule every two years; the city’s last update occurred in 2023. McKeown said the state released revised data in 2025 and the city must revise Appendix B of its business license ordinance to incorporate the mandated changes.
Councilmembers said questions raised on first reading had been addressed in staff responses and discussion at the prior meeting. With no further questions, a motion to adopt the ordinance on second reading was made, seconded and approved unanimously.
The measure implements the state’s updated classifications; the council did not attach changes during the session and did not specify additional funding or enforcement changes during the meeting.
