During the public‑input portion of the Oct. 16 meeting, resident Frank Torino (145 Hidden Lake Circle) addressed the council about a WoodSpring Suites extended‑stay motel being built at 160 Prominence Point Parkway next to a childcare center.
Torino said the development will endanger children and erode property values in South Canton, calling extended‑stay motels "known crime hot spots" and criticizing the decision to allow the motel so close to a childcare facility. "How you approved this motel next to a childcare center is despicable," he said. He said the neighborhood already experiences police chases and that enforcement gaps exist where streets are split between jurisdictions.
Torino said residents will organize and urged the council to note that South Canton feels forgotten. The council did not take action on the comment at this meeting; staff noted that the specific property and any necessary approvals will be addressed in upcoming hearings or agenda items.
